Shootings, stabbings: 22 dealers incarcerated in Rennes following violence over the past five months

“I in no way want to show triumphalism,” began Frédéric Teillet, prosecutor, during a press conference this Thursday, December 19. For the magistrate, on the eve of the Christmas holidays, it was a question of providing a summary of the acts of violence linked to drug trafficking which have taken place in the Rennes region in recent months. “The lives of residents in the neighborhoods concerned are still degraded by crimes. The recent shootings in Bréquigny unfortunately illustrate this. But it is important to make it known that the action of the investigation services and the justice system is nevertheless effective, and that numerous arrests lead to incarcerations. There is no impunity for the perpetrators of this violence (…) In total, 22 people have been identified, arrested, convicted and imprisoned for these acts of violence which have shaken the Rennes metropolis since July. I believe that the work of the investigation services and the justice system made it possible to deal a blow to some of the perpetrators of the violence. However, drug trafficking, which is the cause of this violence, continues. We must continue to fight, to work to identify them. It’s a long-term job. What is important to police officers, gendarmes and prosecutors is to establish solid files that hold up in court. It requires meticulous, precise and time-consuming investigative work. But believe me, there is complete determination among everyone here to do this work of dismantling the networks. »
