Bastia : The mayor receives fake gras from PETA for taking action against the cruelty of foie gras
The city has confirmed that it will no longer serve foie gras during municipal events and will receive a basket of faux gras made in France from the association as a thank you
Bastia – Foie gras no longer has its place in our time, and the Mayor, Pierre Savelli, understands this well. Contacted by PETA, the municipal team confirmed that: “Bastia Town Hall refrains from including this type of product in the meals served in its canteens, during the events it organizes, as well as in the packages distributed to the occasion of the end-of-year celebrations.
In gratitude for this laudable decision, PETA sent a delicious basket of faux gras to the town hall, which thus reaches Strasbourg, Lyon, Grenoble, Villeurbanne, Besançon, Poitiers, Rennes, Rouen, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Nantes, Mulhouse, Metz and many more. others in their positioning against this product of immense cruelty.
“PETA salutes this great commitment made by Bastia! The number of cities turning their backs on foie gras grows year after year, proving that this cruel product is incompatible with a civilized society concerned with animal welfare,” says Laora Paoli-Pandolfi, agri-food campaigns manager for PETA France and originally from Bastia. “We call on town halls that have not yet committed to this to make the right decision, and encourage everyone to favor a vegan Christmas. »

Force-feeding is so cruel – making birds weak and struggling to breathe, their lungs compressed by their distended liver – that many countries ban it and the European Union opposed the practice in 1998 with a directive.
Fortunately, chefs are keeping up with the times, by removing foie gras from their menus (this is the case of Alexis Gauthier, a Michelin-starred French chef, who shared with PETA
