A kind of video game but in the real world. This is what awaits this Wednesday, December 18, in the evening, the spectators at the Pierre-Mendès France sports center in Valence (Drôme). Their club, Valence Handball (VHB), is testing an unusual concept: giving the public the opportunity to influence the match, via a free application, Tricerasport.
If the VHB usually plays in Proligue, the second level of French handball, the experience will not take place during an official match. These are the club’s U18s who will be on the field during a friendly match with the participation of some players from the flag team.
Decide on strategy
For one evening, the spectators will become actors in the match in Valencia. Via the application, they will have to choose a team to support, then will be able to directly influence the match by choosing the players, deciding on the strategy to adopt and awarding bonuses and penalties. The aim of the application is to strengthen the interaction between public and athletes. “A new world between sport, video games and shows”summarizes the founder of the start-up Tricerasport in a promotional video.

The concept can be applied to any sport, in the context of unofficial matches, such as friendly matches or exhibition matches. Samuel Epaillard, at the origin of the project, has already tested its application in basketball and racket sports. It is also possible to play without being physically present since you can watch the meeting live on the start-up’s YouTube channel.
