Podor, Dec 18 (APS) – A collective bringing together eighteen civil society organizations from Senegal and Mauritania delivered, on Wednesday, food kits, clothing and detergent products to victims of the floods that occurred in the Senegal River valley in Podor (north).
A total of 138 people benefit from the support of this collective called “Maayo Wonaa Keerol” (The river is not a barrier, in Pulaar).
“Through this caravan, we want to provide assistance and solidarity to the populations affected by the flood on both banks of the Senegal River, through foodstuffs, clothing and detergent products,” declared Moussa Abou Niang, head of delegation.
Mr. Niang, also coordinator of the Podor Integrated Program (PIP), specified that the 138 beneficiaries come from four villages: Déguimbéré, Hamady Baga, Tivaouane-Mboyo and Wouro Hady.
These localities are located in the communes of Fanaye and Guédé Village.
In addition to the Podor Integrated Program, the “Maayo Wona Kérol” collective includes the Union for Solidarity and Mutual Aid (USE), the Organization of Normaliennes of Germaine Le Goff, the Senegalese Social Forum and the Collective of Muslim Associations of Senegal.
The NGO Cheikh Oumar Foutiyou Tall from Nouadhibou and Féddé Yellitaaré Gorgol, in Mauritania, are also members of the collective, added Moussa Abou Niang, according to whom “the river does not separate the two peoples, but unites them”.
After the Podor department, the solidarity caravan of the “Maayo Wona Kérol” collective will travel through the Matam and Kanel departments in the coming days.
