Razor blade in Santa Claus parade: ‘human error,’ police say

The razor blade found in a bag of candy given to a child at the end of November, as part of the Santa Claus parade in Sherbrooke, was a “human error” and not a criminal act, according to authorities.

Sherbrooke police made this new information public Tuesday morning, in light of the results of their investigation initiated on the afternoon of November 24.

A father who attended the parade arrested the police after discovering a razor blade in the bag of treats which had just been given to his child by two women in their fifties.

The ladies, who were not part of the organization of the event, allegedly decided to distribute candy to the children on their own initiative.

However, after a “thorough investigation, dozens of meetings with witnesses and viewing of camera images, it appears that it was a human error,” Sherbrooke police said.

The two women therefore had no intention of harming children.

The authorities took the matter very seriously, considering that the incident occurred just a few weeks after needles and staples were found in candy distributed to children on Halloween night.
