“We invite ourselves to open the doors wherever there is light,” smiles Florent. And the doors open every time. »

Saturday December 14, 2024, the doors of the nursing home (Ehpad), Le Richelieu, in La Roche-sur-Yon, opened to welcome the trio where their musical improvisation resonated with a rare emotional intensity.

Collect fragments of life

In the previous weeks, they had already wandered the corridors of the residence, meeting everyone and collecting a multitude of fragments of life.

The whole thing became a “one-shot” held in front of residents and their families, like a dialogue between those who are approaching the end of their lives and those who see their own parents aging.

Carried by Dan’s music, the words resonate. They hurt sometimes. They speak of inevitability:

“I absolutely didn’t want to go to a retirement home. But when I had a stroke, I no longer had a choice… I have trouble walking, that’s why I’m here… It’s hard to say to yourself that we no longer have from home. It’s so hard. »

They talk about the fear of getting in the way: “When you have to take care of an old mother, it’s not very fun. So I try not to bother them too much. »

They describe life which inexorably stretches out.

“It’s dead here. In retirement homes, it’s horrible… I’ll be 98 next month. With my memories, I make a warm sheet to place on my feet at night… It’s the beginning of the end, we haven’t seen life go by… I’m in no hurry, I want to continue dancing. »

Loneliness

They also express solitude, so present, so strong. “I say to myself, no one, absolutely no one, deserves to die alone in a strange bed… When I leave, I hope, it’s stupid, but I hope at least for someone to leave a void. »

Tick, tock, tick, tock, the hands of the clock turn without stopping. But here, time sometimes seems to stand still.

Stéphanie Burban, nursing home facilitator

So, she puts on her habit of empathy and kindness for suspended moments, where just the encounter has meaning.

From all these words, The late Lucette made a poignant performance.

What we want is to highlight the invisible words, maintains Vincent. And above all, avoid people censoring themselves and not being ashamed to say what is important to them.

Florent, from the Feue Lucette collective

But thanks to this show, it is also a powerful message of life for those who will follow which was transmitted by the residents of the nursing home:

“When you have projects, you have to do everything you can to achieve them… Before leaving you, I must tell you that everything is an adventure. You have to live this adventure, without fear in your stomach! »
