From January 1 to June 1, 2025, the municipality of Bastia is committed to an operation to sterilize stray cats, a one-off initiative carried out as part of the call for projects from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and the Forest. This campaign aims to combat the proliferation of stray cats while ensuring animal welfare, thanks to a partnership with local associations and a specialized veterinary clinic.
A Strong Partnership for Animal Welfare
The campaign is carried out in collaboration with several actors involved in animal protection:
- SOS 4 Paws 2B
- Animals in distress
- The Stray Cats 2B
- Cyrnevet veterinary clinic
These associations and the Cyrnevet veterinary clinic are mobilizing to capture, sterilize and release stray cats, with the aim of reducing their number and preventing the suffering linked to feline overpopulation.
Campaign Objectives
This operation has several objectives:
- Reduce the stray cat population : By sterilizing animals, uncontrolled proliferation is curbed.
- Improving cat health : Sterilization is beneficial for animal health, preventing certain diseases and harmful behaviors.
- Avoid nuisance : Managing the feline population helps reduce nuisances linked to the excessive presence of stray cats.
A Call for Owner Responsibility
Local authorities point out that it is essential to ensure that your own cat is properly identified (electronic chip or tattoo) to avoid any confusion with a stray cat. Indeed, some pets may inadvertently be captured as part of this campaign, but identification helps ensure that they are not sterilized by mistake.
Pet owners are invited to check that their companion is registered and identifiable so as not to be affected by this operation.
