Canada Post resumes service after special law

Canada Post resumes its activities this Tuesday, December 17, while a special law forces the return to work of its staff¸ who have been on strike for a month.

“While ensuring the safety of its personnel, will gradually increase the pace until its operations are stabilized across the country. Given the vast scale of its integrated network of processing establishments, letter carriers and post offices, the company asks Canadians to be patient, as stabilization will take time,” expresses Postes Canada by press release.

In detail

In its communication to the media, Canada Post specifies that it is starting to process mail and packages stuck in the network since the start of the strike on November 15 on a first-in, first-out basis.

New commercial shipments will not be accepted until Thursday, December 19.

Service guarantees are suspended during the period of stabilization of operations.

Expect delivery delays for the remainder of 2024 and into January 2025.

Post office hours may vary as the company stabilizes operations.

International regime

Canada Post will process the significant backlog of international mail and parcels currently waiting to enter the postal network.

Customers should expect delays until 2025.

The postal system will begin accepting new international mail on Monday, December 23. (B.L.)
