The President of the Confederation of African (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, expressed his warmest congratulations to Morocco following the award of co-hosting rights to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, alongside Portugal and of Spain, during the Extraordinary FIFA Congress held today.

The 2030 World Cup will see the participation of 48 teams and will begin with Centenary commemoration matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

Dr Patrice Motsepe said: “The alliance between Morocco, Portugal and Spain constitutes a symbolic bridge between Africa and Europe through football, and it inspires all players in the world of football to work together to make the world a better place.

This day is a source of great pride for African football, as Morocco becomes the second African country in the history of FIFA to host the World Cup. CAF is delighted with this historic event and congratulates Morocco as well as its partners, Portugal and Spain.

We would like to express our deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, to the Moroccan government and people for launching and supporting Morocco’s candidacy for the 2030 World Cup.

I am particularly proud of the decisive role and exemplary leadership of our brother, Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. I would also like to express my thanks to the 54 member associations of CAF for their solidarity and unwavering support for Morocco’s candidacy.

Our thanks also go to Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, for his visionary leadership, as well as to the 211 members of FIFA for granting the rights to co-host the 2030 World Cup to Morocco and Africa. Finally, CAF would like to congratulate the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Majesty the King, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al-Saud and the people of Saudi Arabia for the award of the 2034 World Cup.

CAF has always enjoyed a fruitful cooperative relationship with the Saudi Football Federation and is deeply grateful for this strategic collaboration. »
