: a region affected by burglaries for the end of year celebrations

The Ministry of the Interior announces a 4% increase in burglaries in at the start of 2024, also affecting the Occitanie region. With 535 Verisure alerts, this region ranks among the most affected areas, a trend that increases during the holiday season. Verisure data reveals the region accounted for 7.6% of burglary outbreaks nationally during this period.

Throughout 2024, Occitanie is one of the most “burglarized” regions
Statistics from the Ministry of the Interior for 2023 had already identified Occitanie as one of the most vulnerable regions, with 20,875 residential burglaries.
In 2024, the trend remains worrying: between January and October, Verisure recorded 535 proven alerts, compared to 444 proven alerts in 2023, an increase of 20.5% over the first ten months of the year.
This is a larger increase than the national average, which is 4.84%, according to Verisure.
The holiday period amplifies the risk of burglaries in Occitanie
For the end-of-year holidays, the region remains the 5th concerned, with a very high concentration of burglaries throughout France. Compared to a typical month of the year, the number of burglaries increases by 2.8%.
Among the most affected departments, is the one where the risks are highest, with 36.3% of regional incidents in December.

In December, burglars also have their “calendar”!
December is a period targeted by burglars, attracted by Christmas gifts and homes that are often unoccupied due to the festivities.
Verisure's security alert analysis shows that in December, the risk of being burglarized increases by 37.5%, with a peak in attempts on Saturday (18%)1. During this period, burglars are particularly active in the afternoon and early evening, with 62% of intrusions in December taking place between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Gifts therefore constitute a windfall for burglars, the latter taking advantage of moments of absence or gatherings of French people to provide burglars with new gifts, packaged and therefore easily resalable.
What are the right actions to adopt?
To leave with complete peace of mind, Verisure provides some good advice to avoid unpleasant surprises:
1. Do not group your valuables in one place and do not have an obvious safe.
2. Inform the police when you go on vacation.
3. Leave your keys with neighbors or trusted people to regularly empty the mailbox.
4. Don't reveal too much about your life on social networks.
5. Opt for a 24/7 remote surveillance system so that professionals take over in the event of burglary and/or squatting.
