The Senegalese Federation seems ready to turn a historic page with the imminent appointment of Pope Thiaw as national coach. According to information from DSportsthis 43-year-old technician was acclaimed at the last meeting of the FSF Executive Committee, marking an important transition after the long mandate ofAliou Cisse.

Pape Thiaw, a former player converted into a coach, has established himself as the ideal candidate for the position. During his interim period, he demonstrated technical and managerial qualities which unanimously convinced the members of the Executive Committee. Unlike its potential competitors, Habib Bèye and Omar Daf, Pape Thiaw explicitly expressed his interest in the position, a move that worked in his favor. Habib Bèye, although seen by some as a solid choice, has not officially expressed his desire to occupy the position, just like Omar Daf.

If his appointment is being finalized, Pape Thiaw will quickly have to tackle major challenges. The first will be to lead Senegal to a victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for Morocco. This success is particularly awaited to confirm the continental stature of the Lions of Teranga. At the same time, qualification for the 2026 World Cup is also among the priorities defined by the FSF. These objectives will be included in the contract that Pape Thiaw will sign with the support of the Ministry of Sports.

The Pape Thiaw nomination process involves close collaboration between several stakeholders. A special commission, composed in particular ofAugustin Senghorpresident of the FSF, Mayacine Marnational technical director, and Kosso Dianapresident of the legal commission, was formed to develop a draft contract. This document will be submitted to the Ministry of Sports for final validation.

By confirming Pape Thiaw, the FSF is banking on continuity while injecting a breath of fresh air. With clearly defined ambitions and unanimous support, the future coach will not only have to meet sporting expectations, but also strengthen the positive dynamic around the national team.
