The WHO fears additional ‘pressure’ on the Syrian health system with the return of refugees and the care of newly displaced people. Around a million people have fled their homes since November 27, its leader said Tuesday in Geneva.
The formation of a new provisional government ‘brings new hope to a country that has suffered so much’, Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus added to correspondents accredited to the UN in Geneva (ACANU). The World Health Organization (WHO) has transported 11 trucks with medical equipment in recent weeks to Idlib and Aleppo.
They will expand their efforts, insisted Mr. Tedros. Health centers in the north of the country are overloaded. Director-General calls for ensuring ‘safe and unhindered’ access to humanitarian assistance.
