President of the Food Bank, whose refrigerated vehicles were set on fire at the end of November, Joseph Pronesti appreciates the outpouring of solidarity from communities and individuals which has already made it possible to raise 240,000 euros.

“We are very touched by all the promises of aid. I am very hopeful that we will replenish our fleet of refrigerated trucks. » After the fire of criminal origin which destroyed, on the night of November 27 to 28, at the Nîmes station market, the six refrigerated trucks of the Gard food bank which he chairs, Joseph Pronesti measures the extent of the solidarity that this tragedy has aroused.

240,000 euros: this is currently the amount that the association can plan to receive. We remember that fourteen intercommunal authorities decided to pay 100,000 euros. On the sidelines of a press conference of communist elected officials from the Department this Thursday, Christian Bastid, their leader, announced that the community was going to make a donation of 50,000 euros. The municipal social action center of the city of Nîmes has promised aid of 10,000 euros. The City of Beaucaire has committed 5,000 euros; that of Vauvert for 2,000 euros, the socialist party of Gard for 1,000 euros. “Mayors, like those of Aramon and Bagnols-sur-Cèze, are calling me to tell me that they will soon deliberate to help us”says Joseph Pronesti.

Aid from communities but also a big boost of 50,000 euros from Crédit Mutuel Régional or even 5,000 euros from the Educational Training Institute. Not to mention the two prize pools put online, one on the food bank website, the other on a dedicated site, which have so far been filled to the tune of 15,000 euros.

Furthermore, Tuesday December 10, at Parnasse, on the occasion of the handball match between Usam Nîmes and , on behalf of the French Cup, the Nîmes club will organize a raffle, the profits of which will be donated to the food bank .

Trucks loaned by other food banks, another donated by a Nîmes butcher's shop

Food banks in several departments of also play the solidarity card. ” Some, raconte Joseph Pronesti will try to free up some money. Others offered to lend us vehicles. Next week, we are going to Bas-Rhin and Meuse to collect a total of three refrigerated trucks. »

For the moment, the Gard Food Bank carries out its rounds with five vehicles that it rents and a sixth which was initially lent to it by the Sollier butcher's shop, its neighbor at the station market. “The day after the loan, continues the president, the manager of the butcher's shop came to see us to tell us that he was no longer lending us the vehicle, but was giving it to us. I can assure you that all these gestures touch and motivate us to continue the fight. »

The investigation continues. “The police are doing a remarkable job and are doing everything they can to ensure it succeeds”, notes Joseph Pronesti. Remember that the damage is estimated at 500,000 euros.
