Haute-Marne. ValVital requests the compulsory liquidation of the Bourbonne-les-Bains thermal baths

The Compagnie des Thermes de Bourbonne-les-Bains will have seen better days. This Wednesday, the ValVital group announced the sad situation of its Haut- subsidiary, hit hard by the lack of post-pandemic activity. This absence, coupled with market difficulties as well as “a sharp increase in maintenance costs due to aging installations, had serious and lasting economic consequences for the operation of the thermal establishment”, explains the group. in a press release. Five long and difficult years which took their toll on the half-century of activity of the Bourbonnais thermal baths. The owner structure, also operating the Thermal station, faced with numerous problems before finding its rhythm, was therefore forced to request the opening of a judicial liquidation before the commercial court.

At the same time and on the other side of the border, those of Plombières-les-Bains, owned by the Avec group, were recently placed in receivership.

Covid-19…

However, nothing predicted such a disastrous fate for the Haut-Marne thermal establishment. Neither on the side of ValVital nor that of the municipality. Just 20 years ago, then newly created, the brand took over the Bourbonne-les-Bains thermal baths, thus becoming the eleventh thermal structure of the Compagnie Européennes des Bains, at least at the time. Business is booming for the better, with seasonal attendance of around 10,000 spa guests between March and November.

But Covid-19 and its hazards have been there, delivering a real cold shower to the resort which is struggling to exceed 6,000 spa guests during the 2023 season. Major resources are being put in place to meet the needs of this cornerstone of the local economy. There is even talk of a major project by 2025, with the aim of reversing the trend with nearly 20 million euros which must be injected.
