The taxi sector in the crosshairs of the Ministry of the Interior
No more anarchy! Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit has just sent a circular to walis and governors. Its object? A profound and immediate reform of the taxi sector to restore order and restore confidence in a strategic sector for citizens. Undermined by practices described as “intolerable and unacceptable”, the sector requires restructuring to regain its credibility, explains the circular.

In this document, Laftit underlines the urgency of regulating a sector in drift, marked by recurring abuses: prices imposed without respecting official scales, working conditions not respected, refusal of service… are all illegal practices pointed out by the minister. The latter calls for the establishment of rigorous discipline, in particular through the compulsory display of prices and the systematic use of meters, in order to guarantee fairness and transparency.

The circular also calls for an intensification of controls to prevent any price drift and sanction illegal practices. Furthermore, the ministry wants to crack down on clandestine transport, which harms the organization and balance of the sector. With this in mind, efforts will be made to integrate taxi services into a clear legal and operational framework, under the aegis of regional authorities, in accordance with the provisions of a specific decree.

At the same time, the ministry will set up training programs for the benefit of drivers to strengthen their professional commitment and improve their services. As for users, a system facilitating the filing of complaints and comments will be offered to them. A way to strengthen the responsiveness of the competent authorities to citizens’ complaints.
