The health situation continues to deteriorate with the avian influenza virus. The town hall of Castelsarrasin (Tarn-et-Garonne) has decided to close the live poultry market, under the Halle Occitane, from Thursday December 5, 2024.
“Market ban on live poultry, as of Thursday, December 5. » It is through this message that the municipality of Castelsarrasin announces the closure of the market under the Halle Occitane, every Thursday morning.
The metropolitan national territory was then placed at a “high” risk level given the rapid progression of the avian influenza virus in Europe. This therefore implies the application of mandatory prevention measures, and in particular the ban on gatherings of poultry on markets.

“Until further notice”
Consequently, “the live poultry market is prohibited in accordance with ministerial provisions, from the market on Thursday, December 5 and until further notice,” indicates the town hall in a message sent on social networks.
A closure which was already the case in November 2022 for the same reasons. As a reminder, avian influenza is not transmissible to humans through the consumption of poultry meat, eggs, foie gras and more generally any food product.

The fat market remains open
