Driver hits police vehicle, officer opens fire

A new incident involving a refusal to comply took place in the Pablo-Picasso estate in (Hauts-de-Seine), this Monday evening. A driver hit a vehicle from the departmental anti-crime brigade (BAC D), before fleeing on foot. A police officer opened fire, hitting the hood of the car, but no injuries were reported.

The unfolding of the facts

The events occurred around 8:45 p.m. As reported by Actu17, a Renault Mégane driver refused to submit to a police check, accelerating suddenly to escape the police. Quickly, an alert was broadcast over the airwaves, and a crew from the departmental BAC positioned itself to intercept the fugitive.

In order to stop the car, an officer deployed a stop-stick, but the driver continued on his way, going so far as to violently hit a police vehicle. One of the officials, in reaction, used his service weapon and fired a bullet which hit the hood of the fleeing car.

The suspect on the run

The Mégane was found abandoned in the same area a little later. The driver fled on foot and has not been found to this day. The findings are ongoing, and an investigation has been opened. The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) could be contacted to examine the circumstances of the use of the weapon by the police officer. The Nanterre public prosecutor's office has not yet communicated on this matter.

Union reactions

Réda Belhaj, spokesperson for the Un1té Île-de- union, reacted: “Still in Nanterre. A year and a half after the Nahel affair, nothing has changed. Faced with the police's injunctions, the offenders always refuse to stop and do not hesitate to rush towards the police. Despite this, the BAC Nuit des Hauts-de-Seine police officers continue to cope every night, accomplishing their mission. Well done to them. The police will not give up. »

This new incident once again illustrates the risks faced by law enforcement during nighttime interventions in sensitive areas. Investigations are continuing to find the driver and clarify the precise circumstances of this eventful intervention.
