A 50-year-old motorist will think twice before driving again at 185 km/h on the Laurentian South highway in Quebec, having had to pay dearly for his driving error.
The event occurred near the Capital highway on November 22, around 9 p.m. The 50-year-old received a fine totaling $1,639 and 18 demerit points for his reckless action, in addition to losing his license for 7 days.
But he is far from being the only one to have had a heavy foot in the region in recent days, underlines the Sûreté du Québec. A 34-year-old driver was intercepted while driving at 163 km/h on the A20, in Lévis, on November 27.
Four days later, a 23-year-old man was also pinned down at a similar speed, this time on the side of the Autoroute de la Capitale, near the Laurentian Autoroute.
The two drivers received 14 demerit points and had their licenses suspended for a week. The first was fined $1,301, while the second’s ticket was $1,376.
Completely drunk
In less than 24 hours, Sûreté du Québec police officers also apprehended two individuals who were driving with more than double the blood alcohol limit permitted by law.
The first event occurred around 3:30 a.m. Saturday when a 24-year-old man from Lévis was arrested on the Pierre-Laporte bridge heading north. His vehicle was seized for three months, as long as his license was suspended.
Ditto for a 46-year-old driver from Saint-Marc-des-Carrières who was apprehended on Highway 40 West, near kilometer 299, the following night. It was a complaint from a citizen that made it possible to locate the individual.
