A sudden band of snow caused problems for several motorists early Tuesday morning in Montreal.

Surprise snow

A band of sustained snow surprised many around 4 a.m. Tuesday morning in the metropolis. A layer of snow covered the roadway well before sunrise and caused headaches for several motorists. It’s light snow, but the first flakes always have the gift of surprising. The cold temperatures favored the accumulation of this snow on the roadway.

Slowdowns on the 40

Two accidents were reported on the Metropolitan Highway (40) this morning. First heading west, between the Décarie highway and the Laurentides highway (15), one lane was cut around 4:20 a.m. and caused some slowdown. Then, in Pointe-Claire, one lane was also cut and headed west at Saint-Jean Boulevard shortly after 5 a.m. All lanes were reopened around 5:50 a.m. This band of sustained snow moved south, then dissipated as rush hour began Tuesday morning.
