Saturday November 30, a 61-year-old man was found dead in Béziers (Hérault), after stab wounds. His 22-year-old neighbor, found covered in blood, was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention, the prosecution said on Monday.
It was a terrible tragedy which took place in the streets of Béziers (Hérault), Saturday November 30. Around 7:30 p.m., a 61-year-old man was killed by a stab in the mouth, which severed his carotid artery. This Monday, December 2, the Béziers public prosecutor's office indicated that his next-door neighbor had been indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention.
“A lot of blood was found on site, particularly in the stairwell and in the apartment of his next-door neighbor,” Béziers prosecutor Raphaël Balland told AFP. Emergency services who responded to the scene were unable to revive the man, who died from his injuries.
The main suspect, aged 22, vaguely affirmed that it was an “accident that occurred during an argument between her and the deceased about the behavior he allegedly had towards of his daughter,” detailed the prosecutor this Monday. According to her, “her neighbor physically attacked her while holding a kitchen knife with which he ultimately got himself involved in the fight.”
During her police custody, the young woman denied having intentionally killed her neighbor. After the incident on Saturday evening, she was found covered in blood, accompanied by her 6-year-old daughter. They showed no injuries, the prosecution confirmed.
The mother was sentenced last October to a 15-month suspended prison sentence for fleeing to Spain with her daughter, between September 2021 and May 2023, while the child had been placed in care.
“The investigations, which will take several months, are continuing under the authority of the investigating magistrate in order to determine more precisely the course of the facts and the circumstances of their commission,” added the public prosecutor.
