After two months of closure for works, rue Gippet is once again open to traffic, in downtown Cayenne, this Monday, December 2.
Good news for motorists, as well as for the five businesses and the crèche located on a portion of rue du Docteur Etienne Gippet.
This artery steeped in Cayenne's history leads to the future police station and Avenue Destrée. This morning, its inauguration took place in the presence of the city's elected officials.
“The objective was to renovate and modernize the street to allow businesses to have new parking spaces, explain Sandra Trochimara, the mayor of Cayenne. We also wanted to recalibrate the track and move all the ditches which limited traffic, particularly for high school students.”
This work carried out by the company Ribal TP cost 462,000 euros. “They took place as part of the road renovation plan in the city of Cayenne,” adds the mayor.
Open today, the street has not yet completely finished with the work. Until mid-December, the technical teams install lighting.
This Monday, the inauguration was also an opportunity for municipal elected officials to take stock of the work on the Joséphine Horth school, Place des Palmistes. The rehabilitation of the building began two years ago, around fifty workers are working on the site.
This school requires specific work. Built between 1910 and 1917, it remained the only educational establishment in Cayenne for a long time. Classified as a historic monument, it must be rebuilt identically.
