Launched on Friday November 29, the Telethon campaign has already raised nearly 80 million euros nationally, including 1.8 million in Occitania.
30 hours of solidarity! Donors were there for the 38th edition of the Telethon, in France. The 2024 operation began last Friday, with the launch of a 30-hour donation campaign across the country. The latter ended with 79,801,520 euros raised, “a fantastic result for an edition which was held on an unusual date”, according to the organizers. As a reminder, the Telethon mobilizes each year in France to finance and raise awareness of research into neuromuscular diseases, such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Today, the impossible no longer exists. We made a pact with the public 38 years ago and together we have broken barriers that many thought were insurmountable. […] What the researchers tell us is that they know how to do it, it's “just” a question of means. Our projects are numerous, as are the families waiting for the treatment that will change their lives. We don't want to have to make a choice, we want to multiply the successes […]”, declared Laurence Tiennot-Herment, President of the AFM-Téléthon

The operation is also a success in the South-West, where the Occitans donated nearly 1.8 million euros to the AFM-Téléthon. Haute-Garonne tops the list with almost 500,000 euros collected. Here are the details of donations by department:
- Ariège (09): €32,993
- Aude (11) : €85,079
- Aveyron (12): €104,542
- Gard (30) : 233 214 €

These results are lower than those of last year (7,591,766 euros collected in 2023 in Occitanie), but the campaign is not over yet! The AFM-Téléthon reminds that it is possible to make a donation until Friday December 6, at 36 37.
