Two men in their thirties were presented in immediate appearance at the Coutances court on October 24, 2024 for facts of extortion and theft attempts. Having requested time to prepare their defense, they were judged on November 28.
In the evening of October 8neighbors of a 84 year old ladywho accommodates Léo*, his grandson, in Marcey-les-Grèves (Manche), saw two people steal the young man's car and called the police. The soldiers found the injured grandmothera wound on the face. The doctor gave him a 5 day ITT.
Equipped with a knife
She told what she had experienced to the police and to the audience. Léo rang the bell, she opened the door for him, he came in saying that he was being chased. She tried to close the door, but a man blocked it with his foot and pushed it sharply, injuring the elderly person in the face. The two men entered, she grabbed a poker to defend herself, one of them quickly took it from her hands, she fell. One of the men had a knife and went upstairs to search the house. Not finding any money, they went out after taking care to unplug the telephone and the box, Léo was severely beaten. The men took his car and left.
A disputed debt of 200 euros
When he was heard, Léo explained that he went to a meeting with a certain Hugo, at the Sartilly carpooling area, to obtain cocaine. When Hugo arrived, he was not present, but two men were waiting for him, got out of their car, demanded money and threatened him with a knife. Not having cash, they asked him to make a transfer, forcing him to show his bank account, which did not have the €200 requested. They then decided to go to the grandmother's house where they hoped to get some money.
Two years in prison
At the helm, Anthony Masson minimizes his role, assures that he did not enter the house, and justifies the theft of the car by the fact that Léo did not want to take them back to Sartilly. He claims not to be aware of the cause of the dispute between Léo and his friend. But he told the police “I didn’t have a weapon, otherwise he would have been shot in the head.” The friend, who hosted Masson in his home in Granville, is Cyril Urbaniak, assumes his role. He declares that Léo stole €200 from him, that he doesn't answer when he calls him, that he wanted to get his money back. He admits to having threatened him with a knife and to having pushed the grandmother. When he was heard, Léo assured that he had no debt to Urbaniak.
The court sentenced the two defendants to the same sentence of 2 years in prison, including 1 year suspended on probation; they are forbidden to come into contact with Léo and his grandmother and to go to Marcey-les-Grèves. They will have to pay €2,000 to the elderly lady, €800 to Léo, and €800 for their lawyer's fees.
