A few weeks ago it was still presented as a fad of France Insoumise. But the hypothesis of an anticipated presidential election has gained strength as the threat of censorship by deputies of Michel Barnier's government becomes clearer. Voices outside the left have publicly raised it and a poll has outlined the position of public opinion on this subject.
Commissioned by BFM TV from the Elabe Institute as part of an investigation into the motion of censure which weighs on Michel Barnierthis survey includes a very specific question which must have caused some gnashing of teeth at the Élysée. 63% of French people would in fact be in favor of Emmanuel Macron resigning in the event of government censorship.
Enough to give breadth to the little music that France Insoumise has been making since this summer. This scenario is obvious, hammered home again Jean-Luc Mélenchon this week, the political situation is blocked and there can be no dissolution of the Assembly before the summer of 2025.
Voices from the right speak of the resignation of Emmanuel Macron
If several left-wing personalities, including François Ruffinhad already supported this scenario, it is voices from the other side of the political prism that have been heard in recent days. The support from the National Rally deputy, Sébastien Chenu, is not a huge surprise, the far-right movement moving confidently towards a presidential election. The positions taken by Jean-François Copé and Charles de Courson, however, are more surprising. The former right-wing boss thus believes that it will be impossible for Emmanuel Macron to hold out until 2027, while the independent deputy called on the Head of State to take inspiration from General De Gaulle who resigned in 1969.

The Insoumis want to capitalize
The coordinator of LFI, Manuel Bompard, sent a letter to the Minister of the Interior on Friday morning Bruno Retailleau. Its subject: the modalities of organizing an early presidential election. This should be held within 20 to 35 days after the resignation of the head of state and, according to the Insoumis, this would pose problems for the collection of the 500 necessary sponsorships or registration on the electoral lists. Concrete therefore, as if the hypothesis became inevitable. But another question is already obsessing those around Jean-Luc Mélenchon, ready to apply again: who to face him?
The LFI scenario for 2025
LFI sees a resignation from Emmanuel Macron next March. This could allow Marine Le Pen to present himself, because his possible conviction within the framework of theaffair of the RN assistants in the European Parliament will not be announced until March 31. Impossible for judges to block a candidate in the campaign, believe the Rebels who also see Emmanuel Macron attempting a constitutional coup. The head of state, who must appoint several new members of the Constitutional Council in February, could ask to be able to stand again, having not completed his mandate. Delusional? “ This is also what we were told when we were talking about an early presidential election this summer », smiles an Insoumis leader.
