Between Paris and Amsterdam, the Blablacar bus driven by Bardad B., who tested positive for cannabis, overturned, leaving two people dead and young people mutilated for life. The driver was sentenced to one year in prison by the Belgian courts.
“What makes me the most angry is that the causal link between drug taking and the crash is not recognized, it is totally absurd. We are in the middle of a legal disaster, this decision is an insult to the victims”castigates Agnès Baylon, the mother of Lorelei, a 17-year-old French girl killed in a BlaBlacar bus accident in April 2022 in Belgium.
Monday, November 25, the Antwerp police court sentenced Bardad B. to 30 months in prison – including 18 months suspended -, a fine of 64,000 euros – including 24,000 suspended -, and a ban from driving in Belgium for 10 years. This driver, of French nationality, was driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the events. But the Belgian judge ruled out the causal link between the consumption of cannabis and the accident. Bardad B. received a sentence “autonomous” a one-year suspended prison sentence for drug consumption because he was above the legal threshold tolerated in Belgium.
