Uber launches a “women” option in France to allow women to choose a driver

VTC – To feel safer, Uber customers can now choose a female driver rather than a male driver. This is the new feature « Uber by women »available since Thursday, November 28.

Already installed in Poland and in several Latin American countries, this option deployed in France is accessible with a simple click, without additional cost or special procedure: on the home page of the application, when choosing your trip, just click on « Uber by women » rather than other proposals such as Uber X or Uber Green.

Give customers a choice

Asked by The ParisianLaureline Serieys, general director of Uber France, described this tool as a way of “give a choice” Women's. However, “it’s not about telling them that this is the only way to travel with complete peace of mind,” she clarified.

A system put in place when, for several years, many users have denounced sexual assault during rides with a driver. “It is the continuation of very long-term work on security issues and the fight against sexist and sexual violence”underlined Laureline Serieys to the Parisian.

To take a ride « Uber by women »you will surely have to wait a little longer than for a classic race. As the daily points out, only 3% of Uber's partner drivers in France are women – it is therefore likely that it will take longer for female customers to find an available driver nearby. To encourage female drivers to participate, the platform plans to lower its service fees for female drivers who operate via « Uber by women » until February 2025.
