A signature at the Lozère departmental council, Wednesday November 27, 2024, formalized the creation of a citizen reserve of former firefighters (RCASP) to strengthen teams on the ground in the event of major events.
Several former firefighters were present in the lounges of the Lozère departmental council, including Colonel Frédéric Lhomme, departmental director of Sdis, Wednesday November 27, 2024, to attend the signing of an agreement linking the Lozère firefighters and the Department, in order to formalize a citizen reserve of former firefighters, of around thirty volunteers. It can reinforce the teams on the ground in the event of major risks (fires, floods, etc.).
Human and logistical support
“It will be piloted by Colonel Dominique Turc. It is a long-term project which was started a few years ago, expressed Laurent Suau, president of the departmental council and the board of directors of the departmental fire and rescue service (Casdis). The reserve will be used for concrete operational support actions.”
The implementation of this measure is of double interest for the Sdis de la Lozère and its associative network. On the one hand, it makes it possible to provide logistical support for firefighters, for daily tasks or large-scale operations requiring all available resources, and on the other hand, it will contribute to developing intergenerational links, solidarity and cohesion.
Laurent Suau also insisted: “When you are a firefighter, it is for life. When the age limit is reached, there can be frustration at no longer being able to intervene. Being able to participate in a reserve is perhaps the most important element.” What the new prefect of Lozère welcomed, Gilles Quénéhervé, present for the occasion; he added: “This convention is important because it creates a link between the younger generations of firefighters and the older ones, with all the experience they have acquired.”
Alain Tichit, president of the Departmental Union of Lozère Firefighters (UDSP 48), spoke: “The reserve will allow those who leave to stay with us. It is logistical support for the department. It is a common thread in the big family which starts from young firefighters to veterans. Everyone can work together.”
A check for €2,000 for the pupils
On July 29, 2023, the Saint-Chély-d'Apcher firefighters were called to an intervention in Blavignac, concerning the discomfort of a 27-year-old man. Four firefighters attended the scene. Once they arrived, they were targeted by the man, who used a firearm. No firefighters were injured. The individual was arrested by the gendarmerie. During his trial, the man was sentenced to four years in prison, including two years, and to the payment of financial compensation to the victims. The two volunteer firefighters concerned, Chief Warrant Officer José Torreja and Firefighter 1st Class Lucile Torreja, wished to donate their damages to the ODP (Work of Firefighters' Wards).
