He will soon be in France. Santiago's father, who had taken his very premature baby away in October from a maternity ward near Paris, will be handed over to the French authorities within ten days, an Amsterdam court declared on Wednesday, November 27. Arrested in the Dutch capital, he opted for a long procedure. He therefore remained in pre-trial detention in the Netherlands, before changing his mind. “The man finally opted for the accelerated surrender procedure,” said the Amsterdam court.
Santiago's mother, who also kidnapped the child, had accepted the accelerated procedure of surrender to France. She was indicted in early November in France but left free under judicial supervision. Very prematurely born two months early, the newborn, then 17 days old, was taken on October 21 by his parents from a hospital in Aulnay-sous-Bois, near Paris, where he was placed in an incubator. After four days of tracking, Dutch police found the two parents and the baby on October 25 in a hotel in Amsterdam. The baby was repatriated to France on November 1.
