Never seen before. The first volume ofInstinct by YouTuber Inoxtag achieved the best start in France for a manga. According to the GFK reference ranking, more than 67,000 copies were sold in four days.
The economic daily Les Echos, like the publisher Michel Lafon, puts forward the figure of “more than 80,000 copies”. The figures are in any case colossal: no manga has sold so much in such a short time in France.
The record was held until now by Kaiju n°8the first volume of which sold 22,041 copies the week of its release in October 2021. Dragon Ball Super also achieved a record start in 2017 with 17,299 copies.
Number 1 of all genders
Printed in 400,000 copies, Instinct benefited from a set-up worthy of a publishing blockbuster. Available in bookstores and supermarkets, it is also on sale with packs containing gifts (stickers, gift cards, posters, etc.) on the YouTuber's website.
Instinct has established itself at the top of sales in France, all genres combined. The manga thus exceeds the Goncourt prize, Houris by Kamel Daoud, What I'm looking for by Jordan Bardella and the new ones Lucky Luke et Blake et Mortimer.
Inoxtag is not the only successful YouTuber to have ventured into manga. Kevin Tran aka Le Rire Jaune has sold more than 1.5 million copies of his humorous manga Keys & Hi.
