Euro 2024: The adventure is over for Kevin Danso

Defender of the RC Lens, Kevin Dance played his Euro 2024 round of 16 with Austria this Tuesday evening against Turkey. Having come out top of France’s group, the Austrians were beaten by a score of 2-1.

The Lensois was a starter for the first time since the match of the first day of the group stage against Les Bleus, lost 1-0 by his team. It started very badly for his selection, beaten on a corner after 2 minutes, allowing Merih Demirel to take advantage of a movement of panic in the Austrian defense to open the score. He then jumped higher than the entire defense to double the lead with a header on another corner (59′). Austria paid for its defensive failures while Kevin Dance did not show enough control in the air, especially on the second goal. Ralf Rangnick’s players will however show resilience and try until the end to come back, reducing the score by the Fribourg player Michael Gregortisch (66 ′). Insufficient to secure qualification, the Turkish goalkeeper Günok made a masterful save in stoppage time to push back a header from Bamgartner.

Samba the only Lens player still involved in Euro 2024

Previously, the Netherlands had logically qualified by winning 3-0 against Romania thanks to Cody Gakpo (20′) and Donyell Malen (83′, 93′). The Netherlands and Turkey will face each other in the quarter-finals. Brice Samba is now the only Lens player still in the race. Comme Przemyslaw Frankowski and Adam Buksa after their elimination in the first round with Poland, Kevin Dance will now be entitled to leave.
