Marie Dufresne succeeds Bruno Rivier and becomes the new secretary of the UD of the CGT du Gard for the next three years. She was elected this Thursday, November 28 at the multicultural hall of Bagnols-sur-Cèze.
For the first time, a woman was elected secretary of the CGT departmental union of Gard. Marie Dufresne won the vote at the end of 53e departmental congress which took place on November 27 and 28 at the multicultural hall of Bagnols-sur-Cèze. The election took place in two stages. There was first a secret ballot of 250 delegates to elect the 31 members of the executive commission (EC). They met to appoint the new general secretary. “I am very happy to succeed Bruno Rivier”reacted this public finance agent to the tax site in Nîmes. She already had the role of departmental general secretary of the CGT public finances. “I have been a union member in my section for eight years. I was already elected to the UD executive commission for three years.”
A rejuvenated executive commission
This 41-year-old mother has grown up “in a family of activists” with the example of his grandfather, who was general secretary of the UD CGT of Seine-Maritime in Normandy. “I didn’t fall into the CGT for nothing, it’s in our veins, our DNA”summarizes Marie Dufresne. A new management team, 8 years younger, took over. The average age of the executive commission elected for three years is 45 years.
Beyond the election, this congress was also an opportunity to take stock of the last three years. “It’s an extremely positive outcome.welcomes the now ex-secretary of the UD CGT du Gard, Bruno Rivier. With “6,000 members from 280 different companies”the CGT claims to be the first trade union organization in the department. “These figures have increased since the last congress three years ago. This is the fruit of the work carried out by the executive commission.”
Three days of mobilization to come for the CGT
During these two intense days, members were able to discuss the “protest benchmarks” to wear over the next three years and especially immediately. There will be three days of action in December. The first is scheduled for Tuesday 3 with a mobilization for retirements. The second will take place two days later, this time to defend the rights of the public service. Finally, on Thursday December 12, the UD of the CGT du Gard calls for a day of action for industry and the environment. It will gather at the Solvay factory in Salindres. A place which is not insignificant since the Gard site will close by October 2025 and 68 positions will be permanently eliminated. “We are working on a major action plan to save jobs and to win the reconversion of the siteannounces Marie Dufresne. We're not going to give up.”
