A practical, secure and comfortable home

Coralie Tantot is occupational therapist. She works within SOLIHA (SOLIdaires pour l’HAbitat): “We offer advice allowing you to maintain autonomy of the person in their daily actions. » In the first presentation session, Coralie outlined three principles that guide her approach: the practical aspect of the home is essential, this can be achieved through its layout. You have to secure your home: she gives the example of carpets, which are susceptible to falls. Finally, everyone must feel good at home, hence the resulting feeling of comfort.

The speaker then presented some examples of solutions. Access to the home must sometimes be rethought, by providing an access ramp or a handrail. Inside, perhaps it is necessary improve lightinget facilitate the passage in narrow parts. On a daily basis, the kitchen space benefits from being organized, by rethinking the furniture to facilitate its accessibility. In the bathroom, grab bars offer a well-known solution, and a thermostatic mixer tap can prevent burns.

One of the people present, Christiane Germain, shared her experience: “I am lucky to live in an apartment that was designed for people with disabilities. So I am already benefiting from some of the recommended adjustments. But new ideas abound in Coralie Tantot's presentation, and I will follow all the next sessions. »
