The Gaston d'Orléans bell tower of the Saint-Pierre de Limours church (Essonne) will be renovated thanks to a grant of €50,000 from the Heritage Foundation. She chose to support 100 “little Notre-Dame” villages and small French towns, reports News Essonne .
The building is separate. “It is a 20th century bell tower which is a double dome, which is a great rarity in Île-de-France”specifies Stéphane Patris, deputy mayor of Limours. The flamboyant Gothic style church dates from the beginning of the 16th century. The whole has been listed as a historic monument since 2006.
A dilapidated church
A diagnosis commissioned in 2009 determined that the church was dilapidated and had structural defects. It was urgent to act. In particular, it will be necessary to strip, readjust, rejoin the cut stones and rockwork, and consolidate the cement structures. Renovation of the roof is also planned.
A call for donations will accompany the provision of the envelope from the Heritage Foundation, because “There remains a lot to do, particularly with the stained glass windows, the organ, but also the walls inside and outside”points out the chosen one.
