This road safety report shows 114 PV per 1000 inhabitants in Bouches-du-Rhône. The palme d'or goes to Paris with 282 PV, and far away is Seine-Saint-Denis, 124. Difficult compliance with speed limits
3,594,059 fines for speeding below 20 km/h in built-up areas were issued in France. In Marseille, faced with this observation, Marc sums up the feeling of many motorists: “We can't find our way anymore, between zones at 30, 50, 70… you have to keep your eyes glued to the meter or Waze. All this also brings a lot of money to the public authorities”.
In 2022 traffic fines reported 1.8 billion euros to the French state.
“We park where possible”
In Marseille, violations of parking rules are increasing. For example, in the 5th arrondissement, with the reduction in the number of surface spaces and the low number of high-capacity car parks at affordable prices, it is the D system. David has lived there for 10 years: “I park where I can, sometimes in unauthorized spaces, never in spaces for the disabled, but I have no choice. Here to avoid paying fines, we have techniques, we hide a number on the plate”.
More offenses than in 2023
In total, 30 million traffic violations were punished in France. 15,000 more than in 2022. Fines for lack of insurance have exploded: + 18% in one year, but also those for driving on bus lanes. All offenses related to the consumption of narcotics are constantly increasing, + 33 %.
Good news, offenses for not wearing a seat belt are in sharp decline.
