the essential
Work was carried out on several sections of the RN 21 in the Gers between Auch and Miélan. They aim to improve road safety, with a total investment of more than 150,000 euros.
When taking the ex RN 21 (current RD 1021) between Auch and Miélan, you have surely come across workers at work on the road. They intervened in the Mirande, Labéjan and Saint-Maur sectors, particularly in localized areas, in order to reinforce the structure of the roadway. “We identified with the department's services a few points that deserved to be addressed, in order to improve security,” explains the president of the Department, Philippe Dupouy.
The old RN 21 is sadly known for its black spots in terms of accidents. Since January, three lives have been tragically lost on this road between Auch and Miélan, reminding us of the urgent need to improve safety.
Speed, alcohol, drugs or a lack of vigilance can be the cause of these events. Road conditions can also be the cause of accidents. Therefore, to guarantee the safety of users, the Department is redoubled its efforts and anticipates.
An operation within the framework of the new “national roads” competence transferred by the State to the Gers Departmental Council at the start of the year.
Indeed, since this transfer, the Department has ensured continuous monitoring of the road network, anticipating damage as in the center of the Mirandes agglomeration. “This axis is used by 8,000 to 8,500 vehicles per day, which makes it one of the busiest roads in the department,” maintains Philippe Dupouy.
9 million euros for the Gers road network
This work, led by the Department, targets early damage to the RN 21, such as tearing and deformation of the roadway. To do this, no less than 200 tonnes of gravel bitumen were applied per section for reinforcement and 290 tonnes of asphalt for the wearing course.
These interventions, carried out for several days, were completed this week. In total, more than 150,000 euros were invested in this area. Since January 2024, the Gers road network has benefited from an investment of more than 9 million euros for its renovation.
But the work doesn't stop there. Among the projects mentioned, ambitious works could see the light of day like at the Trouettes crossroads for example, with in-depth reflection and an adapted budget. “We have identified places that deserve to focus on them. We are not on the same type of partial renovation. At Trouettes, we need to carry out more in-depth reflection and put in place a financial envelope which would have nothing to do with it. see with today's operation”, concludes Philippe Dupouy.
