Alphonse, a new restaurant in Rennes, rue Alphonse-Guérin, is a family affair that brings together two generations: the father, Yves Gardelle and his two children, Pierre and Olivia.

“A haven of peace”

Unrecognizable , this is the reflection of customers who frequented the old Coco-thym restaurant and who come to test the menu of this new neighborhood bistro. The place has something to seduce. It was Yves Gardelle, the former boss of the Seven restaurant, who discovered this place and knew how to exploit its potential. We only kept the beams or almost. Everything else has been reorganized to make it a haven of peace,” explains Yves Gardelle. Exit the parquet flooring of the room which was recovered for the floor of the terrace. The garage has become a wine cellar; the patio has been landscaped with, in particular, a three-hundred-year-old olive tree; an awning has been built, decorated with a 110-year-old walnut bench from a Lille brewery. This way, everyone will be able to choose their favorite space.

Family atmosphere

Cooking is the prerogative of his two children, Pierre and Olivia Gardelle. We offer simple, traditional dishes, made with local produce, selected for their consistent quality. The idea is that “Customers enjoy themselves at low prices in a friendly, family atmosphere.” However, the simplicity of the dishes does not hinder creativity. We therefore find a mussel explosion with satay, pork croquettes with scamorza or even a strawberry nage, homemade granola and whipped cream.

Wine lovers can take a trip to the wine cellar and choose their bottle from 120 references. Small wines at €6 or great vintages like a Nuits-Saint-Georges. With a corkage fee of €10, the price is much more affordable than elsewhere.

In the evening, it’s time for dishes to share, conducive to conviviality. Everyone picks from the assortments, chats, takes their time and savors the moment in complete relaxation.

Lunch menu: one dish: €12; two dishes: €17; three dishes: €22.
