2024 Legislative Elections: Leading in Saint-Brieuc, Marion Gorgiard Marks Time in Other Municipalities

This Sunday, June 30, she said she was “ready to go back into battle.” In the first constituency of Côtes-d’Armor, that of Saint-Brieuc, Marion Gorgiard came in second place, with 19,926 votes (7,000 more than in 2022). The candidate of the New Popular Front (NFP) will face Mickaël Cosson (Ensemble!) and Françoise Billaud (Rassemblement national) in an unprecedented three-way race.

Left-wing union loses municipalities

In 2022, the model maker, who has been based in Saint-Brieuc for about fifteen years, had already defended the colours of the left-wing union (the late Nupes). With 13,092 votes in the constituency, she finished in pole position, before losing in the second round to Mickaël Cosson. Where she had come out on top, during the two rounds, in the municipalities of Boquého, Châtelaudren, Cohiniac, Ploufragan, La Méaugon, Saint-Donan and Saint-Brieuc two years ago, she only obtained the majority of votes in the city centre on Sunday.

The presidential majority was, this time, preferred – by a moderate electorate, disturbed by the LFI label? – in La Méaugon and Ploufragan, traditionally left-wing, the RN in the others. After having had her fill of votes in Saint-Brieuc, where she came very far in the lead (38.79% against 28.10% for Mickaël Cosson), and while her reserves seem weak (apart from the thousand votes of the two far-left candidates, Alain Le Fol and Hervé Denis), the NFP candidate is starting a blitzkrieg campaign again, recalling that opposite her opponent from Ensemble! applies the road map of the Macron government and that Françoise Billaud remains “absent subscribers”.
