November 20, 2024, Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkea) broke the record for the longest distance covered in a single-handed monohull over 24 hours with 551.4 miles traveled (1022 kilometers). A record which had already been broken by Nicolas Lunven (Holcim-PRB) a few days earlier.

On the night of November 24 to 25, 2024, this record was again beaten…six times.

A single record holder

Despite the exceptional performance of the six skippers, only one beat everyone else and has his name inscribed with the record.

And it’s Yoann Richomme, who conserve son recordwith 579.86 miles traveled in 24 hours, or 1073.9 kilometers. He thus beats a record that he himself had established a few hours earlier!

Thomas Ruyant, current second in the fleet, is also in second position in the world record with 568.35 miles covered, or 1052.58 km.

“I just did a little peak at 32 knots there, I have the impression of being a small animal in this hull going at Mach 12! But survival is going well »

In third position, we find Vendée Globe leader Charlie Dalin (Macif) who covered 561.66 miles, or 1040.19 km.

Nicolas Lunven and Jérémie Beyou, but also, once again, Yoann Richomme, complete this group of skippers who beat the previous world record on the night of November 24 to 25, 2024.

A secondary record for the skippers

On board their Formula 1 of the seas, the skippers affirm that they are not trying to beat this record.

“We are not going quickly to make the record but above all to try to keep the ideal position with this depression, we do not know what will happen next but in any case if we can keep it as long as possible, that's good »

However, despite these exceptional bursts of speed since the start, the skippers of the 2024 edition are behind the record by Armel Le Cléac'h in 2016/2017, who traveled around the world in 74 days.

Charlie Dalin, the leader, is 585 miles (1,084 km) behind the fastest edition.
