Weather: a temperature record over 50 years old broken in Dordogne

It's a particularly sunny and mild day for the end of November which has just taken place this Sunday in the Dordogne. The average for this period in Météo readings is generally around 11°C to 12°C, while the mercury soared this Sunday to settle around twenty degrees Celsius almost everywhere in the department.

Several records broken

The highest temperature is in Terrason-Lavilledieu, where it was recorded a peak of 21.1 degrees this afternoon, while the previous record was 20 degrees and dates back to November 28, 1970 for the last decade of the month of November. Records were also broken in Saint-Martial-Viveyrol, where the thermometer showed 19.8 degrees this afternoon, slightly higher than the previous record of November 23, 2014, which was 19.5 degrees.

We also exceeded the readings in Coulounieix-Chamiers with 19.7 degrees, for an old record of 19.3 degrees in 2014. Finally, one last temperature higher than in the records, that of Périgueux this Sunday where it was recorded 21.2 degrees this afternoon, compared to 21 degrees ten years ago. This last station has only existed since 2014, so the figures should be taken with a pinch of salt.

South winds

Then, there are the places where we have flirted with records, like in , with 20.1 degrees this Sunday, while the record is 20.7 degrees and dates from November 28, 2014. There is also Belvès, where the thermometer climbed to 20 degrees this afternoon, below from the previous record of 20.6 degrees on November 22, 2014.

This particularly important phenomenon of gentleness for this period is explained by two phenomena combined at the same time. First, the arrival of south and southeast winds which warmed the air. Like a clear sky all day, which allowed the sun to shine over the entire department.
