Six candidates, one express campaign after the surprise dissolution of the national assembly following the European elections of June 9, 2024 and ultimately, two candidates who will face each other in the second round, next Sunday July 7. Hervé Berville (Ensemble), the outgoing deputy, and Antoine Kieffer (RN). Coming third, Jérémy Dauphin, candidate of New Popular Front, decided to withdraw to avoid a triangular.

Here are the results for the Dinan constituency

Hervé Berville comes out on top in this first round with 33.61% of the vote, followed by RN Antoine Kieffer at 30.96% and Jérémy Dauphin is third with 25.71%; Michel Desbois, various right obtains 7.77%; Logan Maheu of the Breton party 1.12% and Lucie Herblin, Lutte Ouvrière 0.83%.

What to remember from this first round

– A record participation: on the 2and constituency of Dinanit reached 74.82%, a record for legislative elections. This massive surge of voters did not benefit the New Popular Front, which achieves almost the same score as in the first round of the legislative elections in 2022 (25.83% against 25.71% on June 30, 2024).

– A push from the RN: Antoine Kieffer, for the National Rally, rode the wave of his party’s very good score in the European elections. He finished second with 30.96% of the vote, compared to 16.46% in 2022. Its electoral area has almost doubled.

As in the European elections, it is essentially in rural area that it has imposed itself, sometimes very widely (more than 43% in Languenan). But in the city center, on the banks of the Rance and on the coastthe RN makes smaller scores.

– Hervé Berville, the outgoing MP, did not collapse: The worst was predicted for many outgoing MPs from President Emmanuel Macron’s party. This is not the case for Hervé Berville for whom these results are a very pleasant surprise.

He came out on top with 33.61% of the vote. A far cry from the predicted catastrophe and, above all, very close to his result obtained in the first round in 2022: 36.9%.

Due to the sharp increase in participation, he gathered under his name more than 5000 more votes (25,730) than in 2022. A great performance in the current political climate.

– The decline of the traditional right: Michel Desbois, a diverse right-wing candidate, finished this first round with 7.77% of the vote. Three points less than in 2022. Having run independently, he nevertheless fits into the general trend of the historic right, which is in full disarray.

The reaction of the candidates

In 3rd position, Jérémy Dauphin, the candidate of New Popular Front is clear in his speech. “We keep smiling, we ran a great campaign but we lost. In the second round, we will follow the national instructions by withdrawing for the least bad.” Namely Hervé Berville.

Coming in second position, Antoine Kieffer (RN) does not hide his satisfaction. “This result is an achievement and I think that with a large mobilization of voters in the second round, the constituency can be winnable. We have a reserve of votes on the right,” he argues.

At the head of this first round, the outgoing deputy Hervé Berville calls “all Democrats to join (us). I cannot bring myself to see so many municipalities putting the RN in the lead,” assured the current Minister of the Sea, “I will fight with all the candidates who called to join us for this second round. »

4th with 7.7% of the votes, Michel Desbois (DVD) clearly does not intend to give in to the call of the National Rally and Antoine Kieffer. He posted an unambiguous message on his Facebook page Sunday evening, covering a song by Gauvain Sers:

A favorite for the second round

Given the results of this first round, The case seems to be going rather well in the Dinan constituency for Hervé Berville, who has a much larger reserve of votes than his opponent.

The RN hopes to count on a transfer of part of Michel Desbois’ votes, which is far from guaranteed, especially since the center-right candidate calls for a vote against him.

As for Jérémy Dauphin, he has already declared that he is withdrawing “for the least worse”, namely Hervé Berville.

The only uncertainty in this second round, the participation. Will it be as massive as this Sunday June 30, 2024? Nothing is less certain, but it will be one of the keys to the result, next Sunday July 7.
