History repeats itself for Plérin FC. Last year, at the same stage of the event (1st federal round), the Plérinaises qualified on penalties after a 1-1 draw against Issy-les-Moulineaux. Yesterday, in the neighboring town of Rueil-Malmaison, they did it again (1-1 + tab) just like against Brest in the previous regional round…
The “Specialists” have nevertheless experienced some scares previously on the degraded synthetic pitch of Rueil. Despite technical superiority and possession of the ball, Plérin was unable to score in the game. Garandel (13') and Poupion (20', 47') on long shots, Marchadour (49' ) on a header at the near post or Le Gall on a deflection (55') actually missed the target or lacked power.
As a result, with his rather imprecise physical and direct play, Rueil was in reality biding his time which arrived in the form of a happy rebound for the lively winger Dicko. With a cross shot into the area, the Rueille captain opened the scoring in the 67th minute.
A case of penalties
However, with its customary will, Plérin FC continued to work collectively and rely on the deviations of Le Gall in pivot. The reward for Breton efforts therefore came in the 85th via a Marchadour shot deflected by a Parisian hand. Albane Navicet calmly transformed the penalty before victoriously opening the series of penalties that subsequently became necessary to separate these two R1 clubs. Plérin will therefore host Lorient (leader of R1 and winner of Bréquigny Rennes (D3)), on December 15. A usual presence in the 2nd federal round for the Côtes d'Armor club which this time hopes to make history lie and extend its journey…
