The National Rally achieves a historic score in Côte-d’Or

The National Rally (RN) recorded a historic result on Sunday in Côte-d’Or by reaching the second round of early legislative elections in the five constituencies of the department, something never seen before. The far-right party even managed to come out on top four times, sometimes with scores exceeding 40%, notably thanks to its departmental delegate, René Lioret, who narrowly escaped qualification in the first round with 45.31% of the votes in the fifth constituency.

The performance of the far-right party is “spectacular” at the national level, 10,625,662 French people voted this Sunday, June 30 for the far-right party and its allies during the first round of the legislative elections, according to data communicated by the Ministry of the Interior. Jordan Bardella’s party multiplies by 2.5 its score from the last legislative elections and confirms its place as the leading political force in the country, with 33.14% of the votes.

A Triumph in Rural Areas

Over a large part of the Côte-d’Orien territory, particularly in rural areas, the RN garnered a very large number of votes. This success is partly due to the dynamics of the last European elections, despite candidates sometimes parachuted in and little known in their chosen land. The majority of voters voted for the “label” of the party of Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella, making it possible to achieve unprecedented scores in several constituencies.

  • Fourth district : Sophie Dumont received 42.24% of the votes.
  • Third constituency : Former prefect Thierry Coudert obtained 35.44% of the votes.
  • Second constituency : Semuroise Tatiana Guyenot convinced 34.64% of voters.

Even in the first constituency, which is nevertheless very anchored in Dijon, the RN managed to reach the second round for the first time thanks to Cyline Humblot-Cornille, who collected 25.77% of the votes.

Exceptional participation

In Côte-d’Or, the enthusiasm for these hasty legislative elections did not wane all day yesterday. Participation reached 70.98% in the department, a figure which had not been observed since 1981, during the election of François Mitterrand (70.62%).

The mobilization was particularly notable in the first constituency with 72.69%, but also in the other zones:

  • Fourth constituency : 71,80 %
  • Fifth district : 70,74 %
  • Second constituency : 70,29 %
  • Third district : 69,53 %

This participation rate testifies to a renewed interest of voters in the legislative election, driven by important political issues and the presence of notable candidates.

At the national level too, participation was strong. The French went to the polls in droves, reaching a turnout of 65.8%. Only 34.2% of registered voters abstained from voting to nominate their deputy. We have to go back to 1997 to find such a high participation rate, with 67.9% of those registered. During the last legislative elections, in 2022, the abstention rate reached a much higher level, at 52.49% of those registered.
