The Garçon, la note! festival launches a great season of summer events in Auxerre

Music, including the Garçon, la note! festival, open-air cinema, national holiday, street arts festival… There’s no shortage of events to enjoy the summer in Auxerre and the Agglomeration. Here’s a quick overview.

Tables stormed, the swaying rhythms of Louis Bey and then the Mutants de l’espace, with their horn section full of warmth, a beautiful weather: finally a mild summer evening… This year, deprived of Catalpa, the people of Auxerre tasted the first notes of the Garçon, la note! festival, on Tuesday evening, July 2, rue du Pont. A beautiful prelude to this music festival that will last until August 31, almost every evening in Auxerre and the Auxerre region.
Readings to escape on July 3
Readings, deckchairs and games await young and old this Wednesday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Arboretum Park (rue Darnus), as part of the national operation “Partir en livre”. The librarians of Auxerre will do it again on July 10 and 17. If it doesn’t rain…
A nature bath for music lovers, July 6 Prelude to the Irancy Notes d’été festival, the thematic concert “Airs des forêts” given by a violin, flute and piano trio invites you to rediscover works by Debussy, Beethoven, Messiaen, Schumann, Sibelius, etc., inspired by nature, Saturday July 6 at 8 p.m. at the Saint-Germain abbey (monks’ room). What you need to know to keep your children and teenagers busy in Auxerre this summer

Open-air cinema on July 9
The cloister of the Saint-Germain abbey, renovated this spring, will host on Tuesday, July 9, at 10 p.m., the first of seven free open-air cinema screenings scheduled as part of the “Ô la belle toile” operation. And the only one scheduled in Auxerre, the other six being offered in the municipalities of the Agglo (every Thursday until August 22). With the Olympic Games in mind, the evening will be an opportunity to (re)watch Chariots of Fire (in original version with subtitles). Oscar winner for best film in 1982, the feature film by British director Hugh Hudson – which Vangelis’ soundtrack helped to popularize – follows the journey of two British athletes. One runs to fight against xenophobic prejudices, the other to assert his faith. Both will shine at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games…
July 11th, a day of fire and flame
Two weeks before the start of the Olympic Games, the Olympic flame, passing through Yonne, will cross Auxerre, from Abbé-Deschamps (departure at 6:01 p.m.) to Roscoff Park (lighting of the cauldron at 7:20 p.m.), where sports activities are planned from 3:30 p.m. Before that, from 1 to 4 p.m., a stroll with the La Click company from Place Surugue to Quai de la Marine, interspersed with a show by local residents and a BMX show around 2:15 p.m. in Saint-Germain. In the evening from 7:30 p.m., musical entertainment on the quays.
July 13, firefighters’ ball and fireworks

The courtyard of the rescue center will once again be transformed into a giant dancefloor from 7 p.m. On the menu, a firefighters’ show, hits galore served by three DJs and food trucks (free until 9 p.m.; after that, entry is €10 online at helloasso.com, €11 on site). At 11 p.m., there will be an Olympic-themed fireworks display from the Quai de la République.
Perrault’s tales followed by a Renaissance ball, August 11
For over twenty years now, the Bassa Toscana company has been dedicated to promoting medieval, Renaissance and Baroque dances. After an eight-day workshop, it will offer a show of dance, music, theatre and singing based on the tales of Charles Perrault on Sunday 11 August, at 8:30 pm, at the Saint-Germain Abbey. Before a Renaissance ball that will bring together the public and artists. Free admission.
Street arts to be celebrated from August 23 to 25
For three days, some twenty companies will put a joyful bazaar in the city center, for the 7th edition of the street arts festival. Humor, acrobatics, juggling, strolling, dancing, magic… A delightful cocktail to savor without moderation. And what’s more, it’s free.

Downtown merchants unpack before the start of the school year on August 31
On the eve of the start of the school year, the merchant groups of the Horloge district, the streets of Temple, Égleny and Paris are organizing their big summer sale, on Saturday August 31 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the city center.

Expositions. This festive summer season also offers the opportunity to discover beautiful exhibitions. On the quays, where superb photos by journalists from L’Equipe and AFP put the spotlight on athletes, in this year of the Olympic Games. But also at the Saint-Germain Abbey, where the exhibition Botanique des imaginaires, presented as part of the partnership with the Pompidou Center, shows to what extent the plant kingdom has always inspired artists, yesterday as today. Or at the Museum, where the Biolympiques exhibition highlights the exploits of many animal species.
