Second in the general classification, Remco Evenepoel is the best young rider of the 2024 Tour de France and has therefore taken the white jersey.

Remco Evenepoel (24 years old) is the new white jersey and leader of the youth classification on the Tour de France 2024 at the end of the 2nd stage. Second in the general classification, the Belgian rider of the team Soudal Quick-Step was the author of a very fast finale in the streets of Bologna to return to Tadej Pogacar et Jonas Vingegaard who had dug the gap in the wall of Saint Luke. Something to reassure Evenepoel in his debut on the Tour de France.

“These first two days have gone pretty well, both for me and for my team, said Remco Evenepoel on the official website of Tour de France. We have proven that the form is there. I need a little more leg power if I want to keep up with accelerations like Tadej’s, but that will come as we accumulate race days. »

The leader of the team Soudal Quick-Step added : “Actually, the legs were there: I was just too far down the climb and had to close a gap between two groups halfway up, so I burned a few cartridges which subsequently failed. But I am very happy to have been able to return to the wheels of Tadej and Jonas. The pursuit was very difficult, but I continued to give myself because I saw that I was getting closer and closer.”

“It’s very good for my confidence. On the other hand, we all knew that this was a very specific stage and that Tadej is the best at these kinds of endeavors. It’s been a good day as far as the general classification is concerned, and now I feel a bit like Tadej because I’ve been wearing the same white jersey as him for years! It’s an honor to be at the top of this ranking,” he concluded Remco Evenepoel.
