a rally in Paris to denounce the breakthrough of the National Rally

People gathered at Place de la République in Paris to demonstrate their opposition to the far right, which came out on top in the first round of early legislative elections.

Say no to the far right. Several thousand people gathered at Place de la République in Paris this Sunday, June 30, to denounce the breakthrough of the National Rally, which came first in the first round of the legislative elections. 5,500 people were present according to the count of the Paris prefecture.

There were already several dozen on site when the results were revealed. In the silence. Eyes glued to their phones. Nobody spoke. A contrast with the song “Résiste” by France Gall which could be heard in the background. There were a few tears in the eyes of some demonstrators faced with the possibility of the far right coming to power.

A few dozen minutes later, several groups arrived on site, giving a different look to the mobilization. Many young people were present. But not only. Many left-wing voters called for the mobilization of a republican arc to block the National Rally.

The alliance of the left gathered 28.5% of the votes in the first round of the legislative elections, according to Elabe’s estimates for BFMTV, RMC and the Tribune Dimanche. It could obtain 120 to 140 seats at the end of the second round. The far right is far ahead: the National Rally gathers 33% of the vote with potentially the election of 255 to 295 deputies. Which gives him hope of an absolute majority.

The outgoing majority is far behind with 22% of the vote. It can hope to win 90 to 125 seats.
