The activists and voters of the New Popular Front met this Sunday evening at Prolé, the Bar du Midi and the Olive café in Nîmes.

Curious atmosphere, this Sunday evening, for the legislative elections. Nicolas Cadène, candidate of the New Popular Front, in the sixth constituency of Gard, his deputy Béatrice Leccia and the whole team consult the first results and the participation rate in the legislative elections. They are installed on the terrace of the Bar du Midi, a warm, lively place with a rare social mix, on the Gambetta. The bar of liberty and fraternity, confides a customer. Almost all of the bar’s customers are following election night on the TV screen.

Football match and concert in the arenas

You only have to cross the boulevard to come across many Gardois, also seated at the terraces of the bars and restaurants of Gambetta and Courbet. A priori, the results of these elections do not interest them much. Or, perhaps, they prefer to take their minds off things. They are attentively following, on the big screen, the European football cup match between Georgia and Spain. Further on, it is an audience that is stamping its feet with impatience before joining the arenas for the concert by Slimane and Claudio Capeo.

Participation in these legislative elections was exceptional in Gard (like almost everywhere in France). This Sunday, the voters of the New Popular Front are at Prolé, the Mecca of the Nîmes Left. The youngest – high school and university students – play cards while waiting for the first results broadcast by France Info TV. “I’m stressed. For days,” confides a retiree. “65% participation is good, notes a father. But who voted for who?…”

The results are in. Nicolas Meizonnet (RN) is re-elected in the 2nd. And the RN is in the lead in the other five constituencies. “The far right has always been dangerous for workers’ rights, comments Nathalie, CGT union representative at Nîmes University Hospital. Macron must call for a vote for the New Popular Front… Now, we must unite. It is unity that will allow us to win. And we must make a real left-wing program for the next elections.”.

“The left in the lead in Nîmes”

“We cannot have six constituencies out of six, National Rally! We are going to look for voters for the second round,” declares Vincent Bouget (PC) . “In the sixth constituency, it’s playable, announces the candidate, Nicolas Cadène who came in second position behind Sylvie Josserand (RN). But this requires a massive mobilisation. It is unbearable that this constituency should go to the RN.

According to initial estimates and taking into account all the votes, assures Vincent Bouget, “the left is in the lead in Nîmes”.
