Two Republican Right Duels – National Rally in Cantal, the New Popular Front in retreat

The two outgoing deputies from the Republican right took the lead for this first round of the early legislative elections. Vincent Descœur, in the first constituency, distances his challenger more clearly than Jean-Yves Bony in the second. The RN consolidates its roots and sends its candidates to the second round, which the New Popular Front does not foresee.

Voters in the first constituency of Cantal (Aurillac) will not have the choice between three candidates next Sunday. Qualified for the second round but very clearly outstripped by the National Rally, the socialist Valérie Rueda for the New Popular Front (22.43%), very quickly announced her withdrawal to “block the RN”. The candidate, who was on a ticket with the mayor of Aurillac, did not manage to impose herself in her stronghold. As a symbol, the deputy mayor was outstripped by 130 votes by the outgoing deputy of the Republican right, Vincent Descœur.

The former parliamentarian LR confirms his control over this first constituency (37.66%). Vincent Descœur finds himself in a very favorable vote after the withdrawal of the New Popular Front candidate. The RN is riding on its victory in the European elections and sending its candidate Dorothée Gallais to the second round (30.29%). She garnered almost 10,000 votes in two years.

Shoulder to shoulder

In the second constituency, the outgoing deputy of the Republican right also finds himself in a favorable ballot (34.29%). But Jean-Yves Bony’s margin with his challenger is narrowing. He had a 5,624 vote lead in 2022 with the candidate of the presidential majority, Martine Guibert. Last night, this differential was limited to 462 votes with the leader of the National Rally, Gilles Lacroix (33.01%).

Neck and neck with the RN, Jean-Yves Bony should benefit from the postponement of part of the votes of candidates Louis Toty (Various right, 9.27%), Vladimir Tilmant-Tatischeff (MoDem, 8.36%) and Zoé Pébay (New Popular Front, 13.62%). The participation of 69.99% last night in Cantal is very close to the rate of the first rounds of the last two anticipated legislative elections in the department: 70.7% in 1988 and 70% in 1997.
