Monday evening, November 18, the mayor, Laurent Civel, invited teachers, the parents' association and interested municipal services to attend the presentation of the redevelopment of the square in front of the school by the town planner Pablo Samaniego and the landscaper David Abéradère, from the Samasuzu firm with, alongside them, Aurélie Capdevielle for SATEL (Society for territorial planning and equipment of the Landes). For the mayor, “this is a great project made official in October 2023. Phases 1 and 2 (city center, soft connection and environment) are completed at the end of 2024. Phase 3 will end at Auberge du Bosquet and will not impact rue de Maâ at all.”

This work concerns the space in front of the arenas, in front of the Jean-Menaut primary school, which “will become a three-quarters closed space so that at no time are the children in direct contact with the road”. To make this new site as secure as possible, a two-module bus shelter is planned, on the walls of which school information can be displayed. Then, according to a list of species to be planted through a participatory project, the idea of a vegetable garden was adopted. Schoolchildren and children from the leisure center will take part in its maintenance. It will be protected by ledges with secure points, almost hidden by the planned plants, without distorting the site.

Trees, benches and tables

Finally, “a level of plant respiration” will see the arrival of different plant forms with staged flowering, essential to biodiversity: cork oak and holm oak, strawberry tree, ginko biloba, shrub beds and others. A few benches and tables are also provided for a thousand and one opportunities to get together, as well as a “composition” around a tree for chatting while waiting for the children. On the D41 roadway, a narrowing is finally planned on a different colored plateau, and parking spaces will not be forgotten, including for disabled people.

This work will begin on January 6 and end in March. “Please send all your questions before January 6,” concluded the mayor.
