The first round of early legislative elections took place this Sunday, June 30 in metropolitan France. We went to the headquarters of the left, in Nice, when the first results were announced at 8 p.m. Reactions.

Three weeks after the dissolution of the National Assembly by Emmanuel Macron, the French once again went to the polls, this Sunday, June 30, to elect the 577 deputies. In the Alpes-Maritimes, nine seats are coveted by 59 candidates.

At 8 p.m., the time the last polling stations closed, the first national estimates were released. According to the first results, the National Rally’s score stands at 34.2%. That of the New Popular Front (LFI, PCF, PS, EELV, etc.) at 29.1%. For the Presidential Majority (Renaissance, Modem, Horizons and allies), the score currently stands at 21.5%.

In the Nice HQ of the left, carried by the dynamics of the New Popular Front, here are the first reactions. We held out our microphone on site from 8 p.m.

New Popular Front candidate in the first constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes, that is to say the old centre, working-class districts and the port Lympia, Olivier Salerno: “The National Rally is very strong with a strong turnout. We know that not all the polling stations have been counted, only those that closed at 7 p.m.”.

What interests us is second place.”

“There is a strong chance that this gap will be reduced. We will see a little more clearly as the evening progresses. In any case we see that the Macron bloc is losing its face. There is absolutely nothing apart from the RN, the new popular front and the presidential majority. All the other parties have achieved a tiny score. This famous theory of the three blocs is confirmed. That of the Macronists tends to disappear”.

“This is what we had planned from the start: it’s them or it’s us. The National Rally with racist and ultra-liberal ideas and the left, the ecological one, with a multi-distributive and inclusive policy. This is what is happening. For the moment, we are behind but we are not far either. We will always be on their path.”

“There is a good chance that Eric Ciotti will come out number 1. What interests us is second place.”

On the side of the president of “Tous Citoyens” and member of the Viva Rally, David Nakache: “We are very worried when we see the extreme right, we are afraid. I think that citizens who are attached to democracy, whether they are right or left, must all be afraid. Faced with this we must not remain stunned, we must immediately think about acting. There was a call made by Marine Tondelier for a withdrawal in the event of a three-way race by the person in third position. To block the extreme right, I think that this is a healthy position. I call on all candidates to do the same.”.

Activists were also there. Here are their reactions to the announcement of the first announcements. Edwin “kinda expected it.” He pursues : “now the question is what will happen in the second round. The announcement that the RN has does not mean much. It depends on whether the Macronists will withdraw when there are triangulars. On the left, most parties have already announced that they will do it. For the moment, “I am mixed.”

Florian is “a little impressed by the fact that even with this shock from the Europeans, we are still with a far-right party at 34%. I am stunned”.

“There was a small mobilization among the Europeans, there it was strong. There was a real gathering on the left, it’s revealing. Despite everything, I’m really stunned.”
