Unable to close the necessary budget, the Union Bourges Cher Cyclisme has decided to abandon the organization of Paris-Gien-Bourges in 2024.

The only professional cycling race in the Cher department, the Paris-Gien-Bourges classic will not take place in 2024. “The situation is too complicated, we prefer to make this decision now and try to prepare for the future,” regrets Florence Féraud, the president of the UBCC, the organizing club. She specifies that the decision not to hold this 73rd edition “is not due to the withdrawal of a particular partner or a lack of subsidies, but really to a global context that makes companies more cautious and prevents us from having financial certainties.”

A budget narrowly completed in 2023

“It’s painful to hear this,” says Renaud Mettre, deputy mayor for sport in the city of Bourges. “It’s a major cycling race that won’t take place, we hope to be able to see this competition again.” Deputy director of the event, Laurent Planchon, is also fatalistic and believes that “in any case, it’s not up to public institutions to finance this race. We had just about closed the 2023 budget, reason dictated that we shouldn’t start again this year.”

We will therefore have to wait at least another year before finding a possible successor to Arnaud Démare, winner on the Boulevard de la République last year.
